Interview Fundamentals and Resume is a free beginner course that helps you get through the job search: understanding interviews, writing a strong resume, and showing up well beyond the resume. It is for students, fresh graduates, job seekers and career changers who want a clear, practical plan for getting hired.

In about 2.2 hours of short videos, you learn the types of interviews and how hiring works, how to prepare and communicate with confidence, how to write and tailor a resume, and how to use LinkedIn, cover letters and networking. You can find the course on the Interview Fundamentals course page.

Who this course is for

The course is labelled Beginner, and it suits:

  • Students and fresh graduates preparing for their first job interviews.
  • Working professionals who have not interviewed for a few years and want to refresh their approach.
  • Career changers moving into a new field who need to present their past experience in a new light.
  • Anyone who keeps sending applications but rarely gets a call back.

You do not need any technical background. The advice applies to most industries, including technology roles.

What you will learn

The course is organised into three sections, each opened by a short introduction video.

1. Interview fundamentals. Master Interview Types explains the different kinds of interviews you may face, so nothing catches you off guard. Master the Hiring Process walks through the stages from application to offer, which helps you understand what each step is really testing.

2. Preparation and communication. Master Prepare with Confidence covers how to get ready for an interview, and Master Communication Skills (13 minutes) covers how you come across in the room or on a call. Good answers lose their value if they are delivered poorly, so this pair matters as much as the technical preparation.

3. Resume mastery. Master Resume Structure shows how to lay out a resume. Master Impactful Bullet Points (12 minutes) teaches how to turn duties into achievements. Master Tailor Resumes Effectively shows how to adapt a resume for each role, and Master Common Resume Mistakes (13 minutes) helps you avoid the errors that get resumes rejected.

4. LinkedIn presence. Master LinkedIn Profile Optimization (15 minutes, the longest video) covers building a profile that supports your applications.

5. Cover letters, networking and applications. Master Crafting Effective Cover Letters and Master Networking & Application Strategies round off the course with how to write a cover letter and how to find and apply for roles more effectively.

How the course is organised

The course has 15 videos and runs for about 2.2 hours in total.

  • Course overview (3 minutes).
  • Section 1, Interview Fundamentals: a short intro, then interview types, the hiring process, preparing with confidence and communication skills.
  • Section 2, Resume Mastery: a short intro, then resume structure, bullet points, tailoring and common mistakes.
  • Section 3, Beyond the Resume: a short intro, then LinkedIn, cover letters, and networking and application strategies.

Most lessons are 7 to 15 minutes long, and the three section intros are a minute or less each. The order follows a natural job search: understand the process, build your documents, then extend your reach.

How to study it step by step

  1. Watch the overview, then Section 1 in one sitting. Interview types and the hiring process give you the big picture for everything else.
  2. Write down your own stories. After Master Prepare with Confidence, list three or four examples from your studies or work that show your strengths.
  3. Practise out loud. After Master Communication Skills, record yourself answering a common question on your phone and watch it back.
  4. Rebuild your resume as you watch Section 2. Pause Master Resume Structure and reorganise your resume, then rewrite each bullet point using Master Impactful Bullet Points.
  5. Tailor one version. Pick a real job advert and use Master Tailor Resumes Effectively to adapt your resume to it. Check it against Master Common Resume Mistakes.
  6. Update your LinkedIn profile. Work through Master LinkedIn Profile Optimization with your profile open in another tab.
  7. Write one cover letter and plan your outreach. Finish with the cover letter and networking videos, then set a weekly target for applications and new contacts.

Spread over a week, this gives you an updated resume, a stronger LinkedIn profile and a practised set of interview answers.

Pair it with technical preparation

For technical roles, interviews often include coding or design rounds too. Two good companions from the same careers category are Data Structures And Algorithms For Interview Preparation and Ace the System Design Interview with Real-World Architectures. Start with the Interview Fundamentals course to get the basics right, then add the technical practice.
